Ingredients: Anise camphor(>80%); anisaldehyde, 1,8-cineole, allylanisole (estragole),Terpineol, Linalool, Limonene, α-phellandrene, etc.
Character: See quality standard.
Method of preparation : From Illicium verum. It can be extracted from fruit, branches or leaves respectively through steam distillation. Extraction rate from fresh branches or leaves is 0.3%~0.5%,that from fresh fruit is 1.78%~5%, and dry fruit, 8%~12%.
Method of authentication: aroma
Warning: Fruit of Illicium lanceolatum A.C.Smith. or Poisonous Eightangle looks like anise fruit. It also has aroma like anise camphor. However, there are virulent components both in its fruit and extracted essential oil. Do not confuse it with anise.

Application: Scope and dosage of application:
(1)According to Hygienic Standards for Uses of Food Additives (GB 2760—1996), proper dosage shall be acceptable in preparing food essence in sake of normal production.
(2) FEMA No. 2095 stipulates that: the maximum dosage is for cakes, 230㎎/㎏;for sugar, 190㎎/㎏;for alcoholic beverage,50㎎/㎏;for meat,20~55㎎/㎏.
(3)References for actual use: This product has a special sweet flavor and fragrance. It is rather sweet. Anise is one of the traditional Chinese essences for seasoning. Its essential oil can be used in candies, beverages and liquor. For example, Sarsaparilla or Sarsae is a mixture of star anise oil, holly and some other essences. It can be also used to make confect essence with other spices. Star anise oil, together with sweet orange oil, can effectively disguise the smell of sulfide. It is also often used in medicament, toothpaste and chewing gum.
